Buster Brown Goes Swimming (1905) Buster Brown Vai Nadar

"The loss of my clothes does not worry me - to lose one's self respect is the only serious loss."

That's the lesson taught 105 years ago by Buster Brown and his dog Tige, very popular children's characters in their day. Sunday is the traditional day for color comics, and the theme of the episode fits the blog, so let's let Buster and Tige entertain us. As the scan is somewhat blurry, I'm providing text in both Portuguese and English.
"I'm going to fool Aunt Emiline"
"How?"
"Eu vou enganar Tia Ermênia"
"Como?"
"I'm afraid something awful will happen now"
"Oh, this will be fun"
"I'll put my clothes on the bank and then hide. They'll think I'm drowned""Eu vou colocar minhas roupas na margem e depois me esconder. Vão pensar que eu afoguei"
"Now we'll hide til she comes""Agora vamos nos esconder até que ela chega
"OUCH TIGE
There's bumble bees. Quick, get my clothes and we'll go away"
"DOEU, TIGE
Há abelhas. Rápido, pegue minhas roupas e vamos embora"
"The clothes are GONE, Buster"
"Ouch, a bee sting"
""As roupas SUMIRAM, Buster"
"Epa! Uma picada de abelha"
"Buster, run and jump into the creek""Buster, corre e pule no côrrego"

"Well, I got stung and I got stung good and plenty all right."
Resolved!
That the loss of my clothes does not worry me - to lose one's self respect is the only serious loss. Clothes are nothing. Character counts, tis everything - your happiness, your success, and your eternity. I didn't fool my Aunt Emeline. I fooled myself. That's what always happens. Don't try to fool people - try not to fool 'em - that't the way to win. It is neither honest nor kind, and where is the pinhead who doesn't know that honesty is the best policy. People would know more than they do if the carpet were as worn in front of the bookcase as it is in front of the looking glass. - Buster Brown.
"Bem, eu fui picado, eu fui picado bastante mesmo."
Resolvido!
