There will be a space facing the beach reserved for the public that prefers to remain clothed. For the sand, though, the rule is to be nude. For those interested in surfing, competitors don't have to be naturists, but they must remove their clothes. Signup and registration for the event can be done by the AAPP, at phones +55 (47) 3319-3136 or 8444-7035, from 9 AM to 6PM (6:00 AM to 3:00 PM U.S. Eastern time), from Monday to Friday.   E-mail: praiadopinho@praiadopinho.com.br

At Tambaba beach in northeast Brazil, the Tambaba Naturist Surf Open celebrated its fifth edition in September 2012. The Tambaba surf championship is organized by United Naturists (NU), has the support of the official Paraibana Tourism Company (PBTUR), and is accredited by Paraíba state surfing federation.

While the Ministry of Justice last year issued new rules letting broadcasters air simple non-sexual nudity at any time of day, the coverage of the Tambaba Naturist Surf Open featured careful editing or blurry patches. We'll see this weekend if Santa Catarina's press is more daring than Paraíba's

Foreign visitors to Praia do Pinho should be warned against purchasing a cabin at the AAPP. The courts have ruled the AAPP must vacate the area it occupies above the beach, although bailiffs have not yet served the order. Other naturist developments in Brazil present similar hazards for the unwary.
